On-Site Hydrogen for Lab-Grown Diamond Manufacturing

On-site PEM hydrogen solutions configured for purity above 99.9999%, covering generation, purification, distribution, and ongoing support for CVD diamond production.

The Application

Hydrogen Supply for CVD Diamond Growth

Chemical vapour deposition (CVD), including microwave plasma-assisted CVD (MPCVD), uses hydrogen with a carbon-containing gas such as methane to grow diamond on a seed. Atomic hydrogen helps maintain the conditions for diamond growth and remove non-diamond carbon.

For manufacturers, the hydrogen supply system needs to meet the reactor’s gas-quality specification and deliver the required flow and pressure throughout each production cycle. NorthBridge GasTech LLP supplies on-site hydrogen equipment and integrated plant packages configured around these requirements.

Process Requirements

Designed Around Your Reactors

We define the gas supply requirement with your process team and equipment specifications before selecting the electrolyser and supporting systems.

Ultra-High Purity & Contaminant Limits

Design for hydrogen purity above 99.9999%, with moisture, oxygen, nitrogen, and other impurity limits confirmed against the CVD reactor supplier’s specification. Purification, drying, and quality monitoring are configured to meet these requirements at the point of use.

Flow & Reactor Demand

Size production around hydrogen consumption per reactor, simultaneous operating cycles, peak demand, and planned expansion. Controls can match generation to process demand or replenish a buffer tank, depending on the selected package and supply arrangement.

Pressure & Distribution

Define pressure at each reactor inlet, accounting for piping losses, regulation, and the number of connected reactors. Distribution equipment must preserve gas quality between the generator and the process.

Utilities & Operating Cost

Assess electrical availability, feedwater quality, cooling, operating hours, and maintenance. Compare the complete on-site supply cost with delivered gas using your actual consumption and site conditions.

Our Scope

From Hydrogen Generation to the Reactor Inlet

Engage us for a complete turnkey hydrogen supply system, individual equipment packages, or an upgrade to your existing installation.

PEM electrolysis is our recommended starting point for most LGD installations. Its solid polymer electrolyte avoids liquid alkaline electrolyte handling, while compact equipment packages and automated operation suit on-site supply. The system is sized around reactor demand, available utilities, and operating strategy.

The complete package, including purification and drying, is specified for hydrogen purity above 99.9999%. We confirm the selected equipment’s outlet quality and any additional treatment needed, with the agreed gas-quality specification verified during commissioning.

Supply Strategy

Plan for Production, Expansion & Continuity

On-site generation can reduce dependence on routine hydrogen deliveries and give you greater control over supply capacity as the reactor fleet grows.

A reliable installation also needs a defined response to power interruptions, equipment servicing, and changes in production demand. We assess buffering, backup interfaces, maintenance access, and future capacity additions as part of the project scope. Generating hydrogen at the required delivery pressure may avoid additional compression; this is checked against the equipment rating and reactor inlet requirement.

Where renewable electricity is available, we can assess a Green Hydrogen supply arrangement alongside the operating schedule and continuity requirements. The commercial assessment considers equipment investment, electricity, water treatment, maintenance, and backup supply costs.
